Sandbach calls for shake up on Truancy

Antoinette Sandbach today called for a radical shake up in Education policy in the Assembly.

The Head of Schools Inspections Sue Lewis from Estyn has reported only 40% of Welsh pupils are leaving school with good grades in English or Welsh, maths and science.

A shocking 20,000 pupils are absent from school each day....the equivalent of 20 schools being empty a day.

Antoinette Sandbach Assembly candidate for Delyn said "It is clear that truancy is not being addressed despite millions of pounds being spent on initiatives. We need to focus on the causes of truancy and disaffection, namely mixed ability teaching poor discipline and low levels of reading ability.

That is why the Welsh Conservative party is committed to teaching children according to ability, to greater discipline within schools and raising standards of literacy."
