Fair Funding for North Wales Police

The row about North Wales policing continued with Antoinette Sandbach accusing Labour of massaging the figures. Core figures from Home Office funding show South Wales Police are going to have a budget increase just over £6 million and a percentage increase of 3.64% this is in the context of a South Wales budget of £172 million. North Wales police on the other hand are only going to get a budget increase of just over £2.5 million in the context of a budget of £76 million of showing that North Wales loses out yet again the percentage being 3.60% of an already underfunded budget.

Antoinette Sandbach said "Labour AMs are trying to cover up for the fact that North Wales loses out on funding, and they should have been fighting for a better deal for North Wales over the last three years that is what I am doing. Yet again we are seeing resources channelled South and that is why North Wales Council tax payers pay more its time for a fair deal on funding."

Criticism has been levelled at the Chief Constable for putting in place "Protective Services" which include anti terrorism measures. Given the allegations that persons suspected of involvement in terrorism offences used Snowdonia as a base, and given the Port at Holyhead why should residents of Flintshire receive a lower level of protection than elsewhere in the UK.

There are serious issues of bio security at Holyhead as well as the potential for people trafficking and other offences such as illegal drugs smuggling. Independent research shows that rural communities are more expensive to police than urban communities, yet North Wales has received a lower budget increase than South Wales. There is going to be a meeting in Mold of "People for Proper Policing" Antoinette Sandbach, Mark Isherwood AM and Cllr Matt Wright are all going to be attending.
