Support for families

The support for families announced at the Conservative Party Conference in Blackpool was welcomed by Antoinette Sandbach - parliamentary candidate for Delyn Flintshire. The package of measures includes ending the discrimination against couples which live together in the tax credit system and announcing tax breaks for married couples.

Antoinette said "I know just how hard single mothers work to provide the best care possible for their children, after all I am a single mother myself. However it is clear that children and families do better in education and health terms when parents stay together. I have never understood why the Government punishes couples for raising children together - and these policy announcements will be welcomed by those doing their very best for their children. It represents a levelling of the playing field to ensure that families who receive tax credits will get the same level of support as single parents."
