Labour's Plans mean prospect of large Council Tax increases

The Finance Committee of the Welsh Assembly has warned that core sevices run by local authorities face cuts as a result of the Welsh Assembly's budget settlement. , “The Finance Committee has grave concerns that the current local government settlement is inadequate to safeguard core services and asks the Minister to review the total funding.” The Welsh Local Government Association gave evidence that there would be “difficulty in delivering core services, let alone the new targets that would be expected under the One Wales programme without unacceptable increases in council tax levels.”

Antoinette Sandbach commenting on the report said "This is an example of how the Government takes more in taxes from us but delivers less. Further Council Tax rises will cause further financial pressure on a household budget at a time when fuel, heating costs and food bills are rising. Flintshire residents have already seen an 85% rise in Council Tax with no corresponding improvement in local services."
