Flintshire Conservatives Launch local election campaign

Cllr Nigel Steele Mortimer and County Council Candidates Oliver Waring and Adele Davies-Cooke were joined by Antoinette Sandbach and Owen Patterson MP, Shadow Minister for Northern Ireland in Mold High Street to launch their local election campaign for the forthcoming County Council elections.

Talking to local residents on the High Street about above inflation Council Tax rises, Cllr Nigel Steele Mortimer said “Council Tax has doubled under Labour in the past ten years. We will seek to keep Council Tax rises at or below inflation for four years so that we can re-invest in frontline services such as education, social care especially for the elderly and road maintenance”. The Conservatives have candidates in 12 wards in Delyn including Bagillt East, Brynford and Pentre Halkyn, Caerwys, Cilcain, Gwernymnydd, Gwernaffield, Halkyn, Holywell Central, Flint Trelawny, Mold South and Trelawnyd. Conservative Group policies are listed below.

  • FINANCE – Council Tax has doubled under Labour in the past ten years. We will seek to keep Council Tax rises at or below inflation for four years so that we can re-invest in frontline services such as education, social care especially for the elderly and road maintenance.

  • EDUCATION – We will oppose any move to close Primary Schools unless it is the wish of the School Governors and parents. Head Teachers and Governors will be given more say in the running of their schools.

  • COUNCIL HOUSES – We accept, with regret that Labour controlled Welsh Assembly Housing Policy makes it impossible to retain the housing stock and will work to give council tenants the best possible choices in a future ballot.

  • THE COUNTRYSIDE – We will work to preserve services in our rural villages, support the provision of affordable houses and bring forward innovative ideas to reduce traffic speed in built-up areas.

  • RECYCLING – We will support all measures to increase recycling and ways to keep our towns and villages as litter free as possible.
