Rising fuel costs going to hit Flintshire Council tax payers

Flintshire County Council is having to increase its budget provision for energy costs by over £1.6 million this year, with an additional £100,000 for transport costs. This double whammy is not only facing the Council but every household, business is also struggling with increased costs.

Antoinette Sandbach said "Council Tax payers in Flintshire are already reeling from a below inflation increase in their budget allocation by Labour's Assembly Government. This means that resources and services will be stretched to the limit. The Government has gained a huge windfall tax from high energy prices both in VAT receipts on bills but also on the £15 billion windfall on higher petrol costs. It is time for the fair fuel stabliser to be introduced so that we can all benefit from the 5 pence per litre reduction this would achieve. The Government should ensure that those with Post Office Card Accounts can switch to lower tarriffs, by being allowed to move off meters and pay through their Card accounts. In the meantime the Labour Assembly Government needs to stop stockpiling taxpayers money and act now to give a fairer deal to Councils."
