Toyota Announcement blow for Flintshire

Toyota's announcement that it is seeking agreement for a 10% reduction in its wage bill is a blow for Flintshire workers.

Antoinette Sandbach Conservative Parliamentary candidate said "Toyota is taking the steps it can to retain as many jobs as possible in Flintshire. Blame lies with the Government who failed to see this crisis coming, with Brown's famous announcement that he had "abolished boom and bust". It is clear that Labour have failed the workers of Flintshire as for every job at Toyota there are three futher jobs in the local economy under threat. The failure to deal with the credit crisis to ensure that ordinary families and business have access to loans despite huge handouts to the banks is a disgrace and means that no families have access to credit to enable them to buy cars.

The Government must act now to permit a 6 month VAT holiday, and adopt the National Loan Guarantee Scheme proposed by the Conservatives.

Otherwise many more Flintshire families will feel the pain of this recession which the IMF has said will be worse in Britain than in any other European Country".
