Shadow Home Secretary goes to Flint

Chris Grayling Shadow Home Secretary was in Flint to discuss future plans on how the Conservatives would tackle increasing antisocial behaviour. Local PCs and Community Beat officers had open discussions with the Shadow Home Secretary on the ways in which they would like to tackle crime in Flint, Holywell and Mold as well as tackling the problem of rural crime which has increased by 17%. The visit was organised by Antoinette Sandbach, Conservative Parliamentary candidate for Delyn following a number of local residents surveys which identified residents’ concerns on crime and antisocial behaviour.

Antoinette Sandbach said “Local police need to be freed from the burden of unnecessary form filling so that they can get out on the street to tackle crime, there have been longstanding problems in Flint and elsewhere of antisocial behaviour which makes the lives of local residents a complete nightmare. I am delighted that the Shadow Home Secretary has come to hear for himself the problems experienced in Flintshire.”

Chris Grayling said that anti social behaviour was the top priority for the Conservatives. “I am delighted to have been able to talk to front line officers, to hear what the real position is here in Flint. We are looking at a number of ways of freeing officers from unnecessary red tape to allow officers to spend more time on the streets rather than being stuck behind a computer. Mr Grayling later in the day hosted a conference on how to tackle alcohol related crime, at which Delyn Women’s Aid, Victim Support and the Flintshire Youth Offending team were able to talk about the gaps in current policy and the ways in which they would like to see improvements for Flintshire residents
