Holywell Hospital visit and "ice advice"

Trips and falls have been on the increase as the icy weather returned over the weekend. Holywell Hospital’s Minor Injuries Unit saw lots of activity today and shows how health services across the country remain busy with the fall out of the bad weather.

Antoinette Sandbach, Conservative parliamentary candidate for Delyn toured the hospital and its recently opened ward on Monday afternoon. Before touring the building Antoinette discussed new health care initiatives, Flint hospital and how the bad weather had affected the hospital with hospital manager Dee Begby.

Antoinette said: “Hospitals are very busy at present treating people have been injured in the cold snap. Elderly people are particularly at risk of falls during these icy periods and I’d urge people to take note of Age Concern’s advice about coping with the winter weather and staying healthy in these cold conditions.”

Age Concern highlights the importance of non-slip shoes, warm clothing to protect against chilblains and the importance of ordering repeat prescriptions in good time so older people are not forced outside in potentially hazardous conditions.

Freezing conditions, including some snow as well as sleet and rain are predicted across the UK, especially in higher ground, over the next week.
