The Brynford ward is in the west of Flintshire close to the border of Denbighshire. It is a largely rural ward encompassing the villages of Brynford and Pentre Halkyn along with a number of hamlets. 

Matt Wright has a background in engineering management and business consultancy. He is the Chairman of the Welsh Conservative Party in North Wales and the Deputy Leader of the Conservative Group on Flintshire.

Matt is a one-nation Conservative who is deeply involved in community projects. His political interests are education, health and economic development. Cllr Wright speaks basic conversational Welsh and is a keen angler being a qualified fly fishing instructor.

In 2003 he contested the Alyn & Deeside seat in the Welsh Assembly halving the Labour majority and achieving a 6 point swing from Labour to the Welsh Conservatives.

In 2007 he contested the Vale of Clwyd seat in the Welsh Assembly coming within only 92 votes of winning. He achieved the largest Labour to Conservative swing in North Wales of 7.4%.
